Potato Stamping Activity

I'm back with this great craft after an amazingly relaxing, internet free holiday.  With two preschoolers to entertain we did a lot of crafts and fun activities, this was one of them.

What you'll need:

Two potatos

Sharp knife

Four colours

Paper

Take two potatos and cut each in half.  Use the tip of a sharp knife to carve a shape into each of the halves. As you can see we had a star, a heart, a snail and a flower. Once the shape is carved into the potato cut away the excess to leave the carved shape sticking out.

Pour paint into four containers and place each of the stamps in one of the colors.  Let your child stamp happily away on a piece of paper.

Finally enjoy their new work of art :)

Ceiling Decoration Craft

I came across this idea while shopping for a Rapunzel book with Emma.  We saw something similar hanging in the children's section and when Emma said she wanted to make it, well here we are :)

What you'll need
Hard paper

Crepe paper

Stickers
Round plate
Ribbon
Scissors


Use the plate to make a circle on the hard paper, then draw a spiral inside it.

Depending on the age of your child let them cut along the spiral line or do it yourself.  Take the crepe paper and cut out thin strips and let your child stick them to the spiral using stickers.  One sticker for each paper strip.

Let your child decorate it as she likes.  Emma wanted to add more stickers between the paper strips.  Once its decorated create a hole in the center and thread through the ribbon to make a loop. 

Tie a knot at the end of the ribbon and your ceiling decoration is now ready to be hanged! :)  If you place it near an open window or close to a fan or an airconditioner it spins and the crepe paper moves in the breeze.

As a variation you could make themed celing decorations, use themed stickers and paper colors. For a Spiderman birthday party, for example, use black and red paper and Spiderman stickers.

Muffin Tin Monday - Another Snack

Its Monday and time for our muffin tin! Muffin tins... not only good for making delicious muffins!

Emma's simple snack served in a muffin tin is always a hit...

We've got cherry tomatoes, cheese rollups, yoghurt in silicone cups (which she loves and pretends its ice cream), greek pitta wedges and a mini banana muffin.

Banana Muffins

So we're back, after a bit of a hiatus due to the birth of our second daughter Lia.  And while I haven't had time to go online and post, I've built up plenty of blogging material with Emma. We baked and crafted and painted and learned new letters...

So lets start with these super easy, tasty Banana Muffins!

This is a great recipe and its been a while for us to use it. So when I was looking for an easy muffin recipe to send to Emma's school as a treat for the birth of her sister, I came across this one, on a forgotten, folded, hand written piece of paper among my numerous recipe books. It's so easy to do and really, really tasty; a great recipe to do with your child, so it was perfect for this occasion.  I'm so glad we've rediscovered it.

Ingredients:

1.5 cups of flour

1tsp baking powder

1tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

3 large or 4 regular sized bananas, mashed
3/4 cups of granulated sugar

1 egg

1/3 cups of olive oil

Makes 12 big muffins or 24 mini muffins.

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 175C.  Put muffin paper liners in the muffin tin.
Mix togerther flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in one bowl.

Mix the mashed bananas, sugar, egg, oil in a large bowl using a spoon.  Add the flour mixture and mix with a spoon untill smooth.

Scoop into the muffin tins.

Bake regular muffins for 20-25mins and mini muffins for 10-15 mins.
